Countdown to Weysia 2006

Weysia (Weymouth Bands for Asia) was formed in late December last year as a result of the Asian Tsunami. Twenty local bands including Billy Bragg and a number of local children put together a performance within four weeks of the disaster taking place and we raised over £20,000.

Due to the huge success of Weysia in 2005, it is with great pleasure to announce that Weysia 2006 will be held in the Ocean room at the Pavilion on the 22nd January 2006. All profits will go to the Disaster Emergency Committee Asian Quake Appeal. It was reported in October 2005 that the Asian Earthquake could be considered worse that the Tsunami. The death toll, which already reached 50,000, could potentially double if action wasnt taken before winter arrives. Four million had been made homeless, suffered injuries or are in need of supplies.

We hope to make this another day to remember. Weymouth has a wealth of musicians spanning the generations and there are many local people who love our live music scene.

The Weysia camp are currently busy organising posters, raffle tickets, prizes, sound systems, sound crews, bands and eveything else that will assist us in making the 22nd a very memorable day.

We were so grateful with the support from local businesses and the general public last year because without them we would have not have been able to make the day the success it was. If you would like to read all about the event last year then please click on this link to take you to Weysia 2005.

The Dolmen, Truly Gone Fishing, EmphaSIS and Kalinsky are the latest bands to confirm that they will be playing at the Pavilion on 22nd January 2006.
