We are currently drawing up the lineup for the Pavilion on the 22nd January 2006. Please bookmark this page as it will be updated regularly. Please click on your chosen band below to find information on the band and their music. Billy Bragg Billy Bragg was recently described by The Times newspaper as a ‘national treasure’. In the two decades of his career Bragg has certainly made an indelible mark on the conscience of British music. In the mid-1980s, much of his time was occupied with Red Wedge – an initiative to persuade young people to vote in the 1987 General Election (implicitly for Labour) for which he toured with such luminaries as The Style Council, Madness, The Communards and The Smiths. Billy Bragg's current touring and recording band is called The Blokes. For more information and details of Billy's tour dates, please take the link to his website below. The Crack The Crack tour Britain constantly, and have fitted in their appearance at the Weysia gig before setting for a gig in London later that day. The Daze, a hard hitting energetic 4 piece rock set-up, have been together for two years with Kerrin Hutchings on Lead Guitar, Lee Watts on Rhythm, Thomas Burdett on Bass and Alex Burt on Drums. THE DOLMEN are a Dorset Pagan folk band established in 1994, By Original founder members Simon Lumb (Bass player), Tony Jameson (lead vocal) and Neil Prosser (fiddle). They have toured and enjoyed excellent success over the years gigging at major festivals such as Glastonbury and Guildford to pagan bashes such as the much enjoyed broomstick rally. Playing the pub, club and venue circuit of Britain, The Dolmen have developed their own unique style and original sound of folk, thrashing a foot stamping tradition that appeals to many who wish to party. The Dolmen are one of the few bands that deliver the goods whether on a big stage or small, their performance and delivery of Dolmen Folk music is fanatically exciting, obsessively addictive and leaves a venue buzzing with heritage and pride. Proud to be Dorset and Blessed to be born of this beautiful land, The Dolmen write and dedicate their music and lyrics to past members, friends and family and all those souls who have turned the musical wheel of time, and passed the song and sacred art of the bards down to the ears of today. EmphaSiS are a four piece Indie/Britrock band with songs written by lead singer and guitarist Nick Capaldi, Joe Isaacs on bass, Dave James on drums and their newest addition Chris Coghlan in guitar. Formed in 2001, EmphaSiS have been busy playing and developing their sound performing live and in the studio, with the importance on melody and individuality. EmphaSiS are a truly original band, with quirky, catchy and memorable melodies. A lively performance is guaranteed combined with a mix of emotion and atmosphere. At one point you seem to be witnessing something from an old American western, the next you just have to join the dance floor and boogie to a tune you are just sure you must have heard before.. but then again you know you haven't! Just finishing up on a 14 track album, the appearance at the Weysia concert will follow soon after a Headline spot in London's famous Camden, under the watchful eye of one rather important man! www.myspace.com/emphasistheband False Pretences They like to entertain! The band are recording their second CD over the weekend of January 15th. Gothic Chicken were formed in 1743 when a portentous breeze blew a caseload of pewter instruments up the foetid main street of Melcombe Regis. In the ensuing melee, Marco claimed the guitar and crumhorn, Al fell upon the tea-chest bass and tea trolley, Tom converted some abandoned teeth and a pair of trews into a bellows-operated organ, and the unfortunate Luke was forced to lash some cockles together to make a rudimentary drum set. Thus armed, they set forth to bring psychedelia to a suspicious and fearful populace, escaping the gallows by the narrowest of margins on many occasions. Today, the spot upon which they formed is marked by a paving slab, while a tiny wee statue in Alexandra Gardens - so tiny as to be invisible to the naked eye - was unveiled in their honour by Mike & Bernie Winters and the dog Schnorbitz during the 1974 summer season. Their high-profile fans include The Queen, Mick Hucknall and Chico from TV's Pop Idle. Riff Junkies Kalinsky are a 5 piece alternative/Rock band playing original material, with Singer Jamiee Thompson, Chris Bennett on Bass, Tom Hill, Dave Godsell on guitar, and Justin Glynn on Drums. Kalinsky was formed in sep 2004, Kalinsky have tried to find a way to develop their sound to a unique way, and not just settle for the first thing that comes into theirs heads. Since forming Kalinsky have played a whole host of gigs in and around London, as well as supporting pop/punk giants 'getAmped' at the Tunbridge Wells forum. Kalinsky's Live shows are defiantly something to talk about, and every song is played with the same energy from the first until the last. kalinsky's drummer managed to get an endorsement with drum giants OCDP in Dec 2004 and have received critical acclaim from radio one DJ Zane Lowe and not to mention continuous airplay on pulse unsigned, and some great reviews from the mag and the suchlike. Kalinsky are just in the final mixing stages of their first up which is due
for release early this year. www.kalinsky.co.uk Ian Sedwell Speedway Snails They are Matt Green (vocals and anything else) Tom March, Bass, Andy “Rod Thunder” Younger, Drums and Jon Hulland having a stab at the guitar (its strictly rhythm, he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing). Tunes by the likes of, Stereophonics, Queens of the Stone Age, Jet, the
Datsuns and the Knack can be heard at venues all over Weymouth and sometimes Relying on the old adage "if you cant play it well, then at least play it loud", the speedwaysnails always deliver, normally turned up to 11. The Steamer Ducks Robbie is also a first-call session player who has worked with everyone from Tears for Fears to Joe Cocker, Cher, Boyzone, Gordon Haskell, Roger Daltrey and Beatles producer George Martin and many, many more besides. Robbie’s first love, however, is the blues, and the Steamer Ducks is his chance to let rip while pay tribute to heroes like Freddie King, Albert King, Lowell George, Carl Perkins and NRBQ. Tia A welcome new addition to Dorsets live music scene, the Tom Caulfield Band consists of 3 well known faces from the local scene: Tom Caulfield (guitar, vocals), Phil Evans-Jones (bass, vocals), and Barney Stevens (drums, vocals). Playing a tight, funky blend of soulful original material and tough bluesy covers, they mix strong harmony vocals and inspired, fiery improvisation. After a strong recent debut supporting the Ben Waters Band, they look set to impress, at Weysia and beyond! How can we forget the eighties? A decade that witnessed the rise of villains such as Margaret Thatcher and Mick Hucknall, but saw musical boundaries broken with classic artists like REO Speedwagon and Bonnie Tyler. “Truly Gone Fishing” pay tribute to these heroes and villains with a stunning show dedicated to the memories of these musical legends. “TGF are Sheer sex”- Mick Hucknall Vending Machine Repairmen Their carefully chosen repertoire contains a range of female orientated rock and ballad covers that compliment the vocals and incorporate a twelve-string guitar to great effect. The songs provided span the decades and include works by Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Hazel O'Connor, Suzanne Vega and the Doobie Brothers. The band also embrace contemporary music in the form of Skunk Anansie and the Dandy Warhols. Be assured you will not be disappointed! Ken Watkins Ken is no stranger to appearing at the Pavilion, has held numerous "sell-out" solo concerts during the late 80s and early 90s and more recently performed a variety of musical concerts with his old chums Chris Lonergan and Robbie McIntosh. With numerous TV and radio appearances behind him you are more likely, however, to recognise him from the county-wide busking he has been undertaking for the last 20 years. What would Scooby do? The song-writing duo of Gareth Carter (on vocals and rhythm guitar) and Luke Stenlake (on lead guitar) have been friends since before they could even talk and at primary school they were joined by drummer, James (Andy) Andrews. At All Saints Secondary School the line up was complete when they met up with Graham Bell, the bass player but he has recently been replaced by Sam Burr from At school they won the local Battle of the Bands competition and their innovative, fresh and original music impressed not only teachers and influenced their peers, but also caught the eye (or ear?) of local music writer Chris Lonergan. Chris encouraged them through an impressive write-up in the local media to start performing at pub gigs. They have built up a large following and now regularly appear on the thriving Weymouth music circuit, attracting large crowds. Their live performances containing their own music and a wide range of well executed covers, as well as their lively banter with the audience, never fails to impress and provoke reaction. Currently in the studio recording their new album, The Wilsons take a break to bring their unique blend of American West Coast harmonies, blues and soul to the Weysia concert. Add in a dash of melody based folk rock and, performed by these 6 outstanding musicians, you have a recipe for musical viagra. The band are currently organising a tour to promote the aforementioned new album, so this could be a rare opportunity to see the in their own back yard.
